Six

I apologize for the double post but I had minimal internet access while on my trip and just got back yesterday at 2am. I was able to share my project with a lot of people I met at both colleges. Everyone thought it was a really cool idea and I hope that when I hang up the posters I'll get the same response from the LA community. One of my hosts even wanted to do the same thing at her school so I'm glad that this project is inspiring to others. I promise that I'll be better with blog posts next week both when I have more to post about and am not traveling on six planes in four days.

Five

I'm not as bad off as I thought, I'm close to finishing both books and I'm really enjoying both of them. My trip definitely put me behind on all aspects of school (and my capstone blogs). Tomorrow I'm going to start working on the posters and I, again, have really high exectations for the responses.

Four

Day three in the dirty south. The locals are strange and there is a shortage of Dunkin' Donuts. There is limited time for book reading and blog posting. I'd like to report that I am making good progress with my books, but that would be a lie. I didn't realize how busy I was going to be, but I'm intent on keeping my previous deadlines for finishing the books. I really don't have much to report in terms of my project, only that I can't wait to make the posters. As soon as I get home, I plan on (finishing my books) and figuring out the best way to create my excellent posters.

Three

This weekend was spent mostly working on my presentation for tomorrow. I hope that I'll be able to convey my goals for this project to the class. Preparing this presentation and rewriting my proposal have helped me to realize the strengths and my weaknesses of my project. I definitely have a more clear idea of the direction I want this project to go in and what my final product should be. I'm really excited about sharing my project idea, but I'm also disappointed that I won't be able to see everyone else's presentations. I hope that I'll be able to make good progress next week (and keep up with my blog posts) even though I'll be travelling.

Two

I have all the books that I will be reading for this project--The Tipping Point by Malcolm Gladwell, as well as Before I Die by Candy Chang. Since the inspiration for my project came from her Ted video, I thought it would be helpful to read her book. Both of the books were taking too long to ship so I have purchased them for my Kindle. By which I mean I have purchased them and will be stealing my dad's Kindle for my trip next week. I'll be on a total of six airplanes next week and I'll be spending an absurd amount of time in airports so I should have no problem finishing both books by the end of next week. In class, I have mostly been working on formulating the questions and prompts for my posters and it's been going well. I'm really happy with where my questions are at this point. Again, even though I'm happy with them, it worries me how reliant my project is on other people. But, I'm optimistic and can't wait to hang up the posters and see what kind of responses I get.

One

As I begin working on this project, I am both excited and nervous. I am mostly excited because as I enter college, I plan on studying some combination of neuroscience, psychology, and anthropology. Essentially, I am interested in studying humans. This capstone project will give me the opportunity to spend time doing something that truly interests me. As of now, I have begun doing research (while I wait for my book to arrive) and have also started writing the prompts for the first portion of my project. As I continue finalizing the prompts that I will have set up around the school, I sometimes worry that my project isn't going to turn out the way that I want. For example, I worry that if I have posters set up, that either people won't take them seriously or I won't get as many responses as I am hoping for. With the responses of the LA community being the basis of the stories, poems, etc. that I will write, it worries me that I won't have any material to work from.
